My L.I.F.E.
Living Independently Fostering Excellence
Every year 4,000 California foster youth find themselves out on their own at the age of eighteen. Roughly half of them will drop out of high school and become unemployed, homeless or incarcerated.
CFLC's My L.I.F.E. introduces these young people to job training, employment, home finding, budgeting, transportation options and education to lay the foundation for independent living. Many of these needs, including deposits, furnishings, uniforms, appliances, house ware and food, are initially underwritten with funds from grants and private donations. Even more valuable is the personal guidance each youth receives from their My L.I.F.E. adivsor. These experienced counselors require full accountability for this initial assistance and a viable strategy from each youth. They are also an unlimited, and sometimes unsolicited resource of common sense.
My L.I.F.E. was originally inspired by the needs of the kids at CFLC, but has since expanded to any foster youth referred from our area. The status of former foster children has been a sorrowful situation for decades, but CFLC's My L.I.F.E. is offering new hope, and real solutions.
